How to Add a New Blog Post in Squarespace

Ready to start blogging on your brand-new website? Amazing! 🎉 Whether you’re sharing tips, updates, or behind-the-scenes insights, blogging is a powerful way to connect with your audience and boost your SEO.

Here’s a super easy guide to walk you through adding a new blog post in Squarespace — plus how to add images, set tags and categories, and decide when to publish.

✍️ Step 1: Go to Your Blog Page

  1. Log into your Squarespace site.

  2. In the left menu, go to Pages

  3. Click on your Blog Page (it may be named “Blog,” “Journal,” or something else)

đź“ť Step 2: Add a New Post

  1. Click the + button or New Post

  2. Add a Title for your blog post

  3. In the content area, write your post! Use headings, bullets, or links as needed

đź’ˇ You can also drag in blocks like images, videos, buttons, or quotes to make your post more engaging.

🖼️ Step 3: Add a Thumbnail Image

  1. Click Settings (gear icon next to the post title)

  2. Scroll to the Thumbnail Image section

  3. Upload an image that will display with your blog post preview

📸 This image also shows up in blog summaries and when your post is shared on social media — make it eye-catching!

🏷️ Step 4: Add Tags and Categories

Still in the Post Settings panel:

  • Categories: Broad topics you write about (e.g., "Tips," "News," "Inspiration")

  • Tags: Specific keywords related to the post content (e.g., “Squarespace,” “design,” “marketing”)

Use these to keep your blog organized and help readers (and Google!) find your content more easily.

đź“… Step 5: Save or Publish Your Post

You have a few options:

  • Save as Draft: Still working on it? Click Done > Save to keep it unpublished.

  • Schedule It: Click Done > Schedule, choose a date/time, and it’ll publish automatically.

  • Publish Now: Ready to go live? Click Done > Publish

You can always come back to edit or unpublish a post if needed.

🎯 Bonus Tips

  • Write for your audience — give them something helpful, interesting, or fun

  • Add internal links to other blog posts or pages on your site

  • Use at least one high-quality image in the post body to break up text

And that’s it! Blogging doesn’t have to be complicated — just show up consistently, speak to your audience, and have fun with it. You’ve got this!

Alison Strate

Here is a little bit about me. I am a millennial, married, and young mother of three beautiful children. I live in Southern Utah and love the outdoors. I have a B.S. in Horticulture (the study of plants) and a minor in marketing. I like to think that my degree in horticulture really paved the way for me as a designer. I love color and using it to capture an audience.

My journey into the world of web design began back in 2014, when I designed a website for the company I was working for as their marketing manager. I fell in love with Squarespace and since my husband and I were starting a family I realized designing websites was something I could do from home. Ever since then I have been building websites on the Squarespace platform. I have loved how it has evolved and consider myself an expert in Squarespace.

My design approach is a blend of nature's beauty and strategic thinking. It's been an incredible journey from the serene world of plants to the dynamic realm of digital design, and I've found joy in blending these seemingly disparate fields. From cozy local businesses to vast solar farms in the Australian countryside, my portfolio reflects the diversity of projects I've had the pleasure of working on over the years. I believe in crafting websites that not only look good but also feel like a true reflection of the businesses they represent.

If you're in search of a seasoned designer who combines creativity, dedication, and empathy, look no further. I'm here to collaborate with you on your digital projects, ensuring they not only meet but exceed your expectations. Let's work together to create captivating digital experiences that resonate with your audience and achieve your business goals.
